Market Day in the Plaza is offered every Wednesday from 12 noon to 4 pm from May 21 to September 24, 2014 outside the Kirby Plaza main door. Market Day offers locally grown plants and food, baked items, arts and crafts locally made by the community, UMD Stores special sales, live entertainment, demonstrations, local bike shops offering bike repair, produce from the UMD Farm, and more.
UMD's Market Day promotes a healthy workplace and a healthy lifestyle for employees and students; provides healthy, locally produced food and goods to Duluth and surrounding communities; and support local sustainable agriculture.
The Farmers Market at UMD started in 2000 with locally grown plants and food sold at the market provided by regional farmers from the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association (LSSFA) selling transplants, plants, apple trees, fruits, vegetables, fresh cut flowers and other locally grown produce fresh from their farms and gardens, as well as, delightful baked goods, jams, jellies, meat, eggs, and more. In 2008, locally made arts and crafts was welcomed.
