Mission of the UMD Market Day in the Plaza: To promote a healthy workplace and a healthy lifestyle for employees and students; provide healthy, locally produced food and goods to Duluth and surrounding communities; and support local sustainable agriculture.
The Farmers Market at UMD started in 2000 with locally grown plants and food sold at the market provided by regional farmers from the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association (LSSFA) selling transplants, plants, apple trees, fruits, vegetables, fresh cut flowers and other locally grown produce fresh from their farms and gardens, as well as, delightful baked goods, jams, jellies, meat, eggs, and more.
In 2008, locally made arts and crafts was welcomed.
The Market now offers locally grown plants and food, baked items, arts and crafts locally made by the community, UMD Stores special sale, live entertainment, demonstrations, local bike shops offering bike repair kiosk, produce from the UMD Farm, and more.
